class?

yes, this is indeed what we do as a class. every single day. i like to have an open mind about education -- if they want to learn art, they'll help themselves to my shelf of art books and learn what they're ready to learn, you know? the power of the human mind is so underestimated. and in the meantime, the composition of that pyramid is so artistic really. it includes balance and symmetry... what more could an art teacher hope for?!

my favoritest small group

here's a random few shots of my small group that meets on wednesdays. the dish-washing man is the famous eric bolger, despite his strange and rather odd expression... kathleen is due to have that thar baby today, as a matter of fact, but we're all not surprised that she still hasn't... it's gonna be a big 'un!

maddie the stalker

i can't believe i haven't put pictures of my cats on this here blog! what an oversight! sheesh!
this is maddie stalking something in the undergrowth. i suppose i'll refrain from including pictures of all my cats, for fear of being dubbed 'the cat lady' before my time... they are VERY ready for spring also. maddie and her sister sophie are still youngsters, despite their growing girth and have an abundance of energy this winter-- they like to tear after each other in unending circles around my house. now that it's warming up i can boot them outside! yes!

productivity in the art room

suffice it to say the last class before spring break was not the most productive of classes -- but they had fun! that's all they'll really remember in the grand scheme of things. the compositional arrangement of negative space and balance will fade into the hazy days of youth. notice how many boys are in this picture... i think our school has a disproportionate amount of boys. and yet my life has the opposite -- where are all the men?!
our 'spring' break isn't going to be that springy -- i hear we might get snow!! i'm firmly of the opinion that break should keep going until we get at least 5 consecutive days of spring like-weather.
to all my fans, i hate to leave you for a whole week, wondering and pining for news... it can't be avoided, i'm afraid. i pledge to promptly post as soon as school starts back up. you have my word.

field trip with the kiddos

i took my two smaller classes on a field trip to the local college art gallery. it was a fun little break in the predictable school day... they had a good time i think, despite the 3 page worksheet they had to fill out. haha. i figured they should work a little to make up for the hour long lunch break we had which took us to both macdonalds AND sonic... isn't that a nice gravity-face shot of me? the artwork was interesting. there were some woodcut prints which are always amazing to imagine actually creating -- he carves the image out of a block of wood then rolls ink on it and prints it -- it must've taken him years!! then some other paintings that were rather vague and ambiguous in meaning.

spring! hurray!

even the bluejays are out!!
the spring season has been dampened somewhat by the nightly tornado warnings we've been having... there's nothing magical about trudging to the basement in the middle of the night, and esPECially, on top of it all, to have my car stereo stolen by a natural-disaster looter!! our first night of tornadic weather and someone takes advantage of the distraction! granted, my car doors weren't locked and i should have known better, but seriously -- 10 yards in front of my house AND next to my friend's car who's doors weren't locked either, and who's car was left completely alone!
i rest my case. it's a personal vendetta. perhaps some bitter student who flunked art last year.
anyways, back to the flowers.... :-)

shout out to the fan base, yo.

i'm a horrible horrible blogger. it's been 21 days since i updated this here blog, and all 3 of my fans are losing faith in me. i extend the sincerest of apologies and pray your forgiveness, good people. the last picture was of snow, and now it's spring!! well, very close anyway. i DEFinitely have spring fever, evidenced by my maniacal flower-photographing. but aren't these beautiful?! There's just something about spring that makes all the crappy stuff in life seem much less significant.
